To see or not to see...

Crystal clear blue waters, the pink feathers of the flamingo, the evergreen tree, the beautiful rainbow after a rainstorm, the explosion of colour in a fantastic sunset. It is the vision of nature that no one will argue about. It is the vision of all things bright and beautiful that we admire. A painting, a dancer, a multi-coloured spinnaker at full gust. The beauty of a smile on a child, the view of earth from a space shuttle, the visions from the depths of the deepest seas all wonders of this amazing world we live in.
We take it for granted these visions of awe and beauty. Everyday we see these things and never seem to get enough time to appreciate them. We work hard, we play hard. Our lives in constant motion, and the wonders of the world come and go. Still, we know these visions, we recognise them and when we do care enough, they are appreciated for their true value.
Funny thing is with the ugly visions too. We see homeless people. AIDS ravaged children in Africa, and yes even the slaughter of thousands of innocents in Darfur. For whatever reason our vision of this tells our conscience that it is too horrible to watch, something we shouldn't see, something that is there, and we know it is, but very few want to appreciate the nature of it. What we hope is that, like a horror movie, or another sight that makes us cringe, it will just soon go away.
It's not going away. The view remains the same, and we can't seem to make this sad picture a pretty one. Ignoring it, just doesn't make it go away. Unless we commit to changing the view... changing the picture.... each one of us... the picture will always make us cringe.
Please... Please... recognise this view... this vision and help change it forever!
